Michael Berg Raunick is the head choral director at North Central High School. Mr. Raunick is a graduate of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and holds a master’s degree from Butler University. He is responsible for 5 choirs at North Central including the nationally recognized concert/show choir, the Counterpoints. Under Mr. Raunick’s direction the Counterpoints were named show choir state champions in 2015, 2016, and 2018 and Grand Champions at the Showcoir Nationals competition at the Grand Ole Opry also in 2018. North Central’s advanced women’s choir, the Descants, were named show choir state champions four out of the past five years, as well as concert choir state champions six out of the last eleven years.

His arrangements and compositions for show choir and concert choir have been performed by choirs throughout the Midwest. He also composed an original musical titled “Welcome to College” that is performed every summer as part of orientation programming at Indiana University – Bloomington.

Previous to North Central Mr. Raunick was the director of choirs at Waynedale High School in Apple Creek, Ohio. During his time at Waynedale choral enrollment grew by over 200%, boasting 119 choir members in a school with a total enrollment of approximately 350. He founded two different ensembles which competed at the state level for the first time in school history and received the highest rating of a “1” at OMEA State Adjudicated Events.

Mr. Raunick is a member of NAfME, ACDA and ISME, and presented a clinic on developing a struggling choir program at the 2011 Ohio Music Educators Professional Development Conference. Originally from New Jersey, he was also the recipient of the New Jersey Governor’s Award. Mr. Raunick lives with his wife Cara and daughter Ruth in Indianapolis.

Rick Granlund serves as the Director of Bands and 6-12 Performing Arts Department Chair at North Central High School in Indianapolis. During his tenure at North Central, the Wind Ensemble has been a perennial state finalist, being named State Concert Band Champion 5 times.

Rick has been honored by SBO Magazine, named the Phi Beta Mu Indiana Bandmaster of the Year, selected as a Lilly Teacher Creativity Fellow, awarded a Ball State University Alumni Achievement Citation, and named the IMEA Outstanding High School Music Educator.

He has served as the President of IBA from 2007-2009 and 2019-2021, President of  ISSMA from 2010-2011 and 2019-2020, and President of Phi Beta Mu in 2014-2016. Professional memberships include IBA, Phi Beta Mu, IJEA, IMEA, TMEA, and NAfME.

Rick earned his undergraduate degree from Ball State University, where he was a Pressler scholar, and completed a Masters of Arts degree at the University of Indianapolis. Rick is married to his wife, Candi, who serves as a band director at Zionsville West MS, and they have three children.


Being a part of North Central Theatre has fulfilled one of my greatest desires. I cannot speak highly enough of the training I've received here. Not only has it changed me as an individual but as an artist as well. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
