IRT’s Scrooge to Direct Play at NCHS Theatre

The Arabian Nights

NC Theatre will present Mary Zimmerman’s The Arabian Nights this coming September with surprise guest director, Ebeneezer Scrooge. Ryan Artzberger, who plays the hum-bug at the Indiana Repertory Theatre each holiday season, will guest direct the production with NCHS Theatre. Artzberger also played the leading role, King Shahryar, in The Arabian Nights when the show was produced professionally at the Lookingglass Theatre in Chicago.

“This story is really about how the imagination of one woman was able to save the lives of so many,” said Artzberger. “This show will have a lot of unique aspects that the audience won’t be expecting. We hope to take them on this magical journey as Scheherazade allows us to see the stories come to life before our eyes, creating a life changing experience.”

Performed by the talented NCHS Repertory Theatre, this mystic adaptation weaves ancient tales of wonder into a poetic testament to the transformational power of storytelling. King Shahryar marries, loves, then kills a young woman each night-until he encounters Scheherazade.  For 1001 nights, he delays her murder as he eagerly awaits her next tale of love, lust, hilarity, or sorrow. The final scene brings the audience back to modern-day Baghdad, and distant air-raid sirens warn of the danger threatening the land that produced the encyclopedia of human experience, imagination, and poetry that is The Arabian Nights!

The show runs Friday Sept. 4 at 7:00 PM, Sat. Sept. 5 at 2:30 & 7:00. Tickets are $8 adults and $6 12 and younger. Tickets and information can be found at northcentraltheatre.org. The show is recommended for teens and up. North Central High School is located at 1801 E 86th St., Indianapolis, IN 46240, (317) 259-5301.
